Theologos, the old capital of Thassos 10 km's from Potos and 55 km's from Limenas (Thassos Town). Set on the side of a mountain, with a lush valley at the foot of the village, and more pine covered mountains opposite. Wandering around the twisting, narrow streets you can still hear the voices of the past and imagine what it was like in bygone times! Stone built houses and old mansions with stone roofs are everywhere, many of them now deserted. Cafes with old men willing to tell old stories are dotted around the village.

Take a walk down to river and see the ancient stone bridge, on the way stop at Saint Dimitrios church and see the fabulous wood carvings. Their is a waterfall which is in amongst a small copse of shade trees. The folklore museum gives you a glimpse of the past.

Of course…we must not forget the many tavernas which offer the local speciality of roasted kid on the spit, famous all around the island! Theologos is also renowned for making traditional 'spoon sweets', walnut and fig candied in honey! Every year the village re-enacts a traditional Thassian Wedding, this normally takes place on or around August 15th, if you are on the island at this time it is worth a visit, be prepared you won't escape until late! For walkers or people with off-road vehicles you can take a dirt road to the mountain village of Kastro.
