Panagia-Skala Panagia

View on map

This village is named after the Virgin Mary. Panagia is a place blessed with natural beauty and people who know how to honour the meaning of hospitality. It is based 7 km's east of Limenas (Thassos Town) and 3 km's from Potamia. Large plane trees give vital shade and a feeling of serenity to the village and provide gathering points for both locals and tourists.

Another place to visit is the Drakotripa cave which will enthral you with its stalactites and stalagmites. Traditional taverns will treat you, after your meal, to traditional home made candied fruits. It is worth visiting the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, with its unique architecture. During the celebration of the Assumption on the 15th of August there is a definite festive spirit when they celebrate not only the Assumption but the name of the village!

Many people will tell you the best beach of the island is Golden Beach. With one end of it located in Skala Panagia (this part of the beach is also known as Chrisi Ammoudia) 4 km's down a steep winding road from Panagia. Here you can find a huge variety of accommodation for your holidays, from 5 star boutique hotels to basic rooms. The whole area is well serviced with shops, bars, tavernas, cafes, car hire and water sports.
