Limenas is the capital of Thassos island, it is also sometimes known as Thassos Town. It is located on the north side of the island, and offers the visitor a variety of experiences. With a good supply of beaches in the area, Limenas (Thassos Town) is the ideal destination for those who seek to combine swimming during the day, and cosmopolitan entertainment during the night. The beach café bars bustle with life all day and night long, while restaurants and patisseries offer unique culinary delights.
Limenas (Thassos Town) has a full range of shops, banks and local administrative services. The nearby beaches of Nisteri, Glifada, Makriammos and Saliara are absolutely amazing. Limenas (Thassos Town), being the administrative center of the island has most of the public services including the main police station (the other police station is inLimenaria). Several large hotels and every other kind of accommodation to suit you are either in the town or in close proximity. There are also the old and new ports.
The old port is a super place to sit and watch the world go by or visit the famous Kalogeriko, a recently restored traditional building, that is used by the Municipality of Thassos as a cultural events venue. It also occasionally hosts various exhibitions, lectures and conferences. From here it is a pleasant walk to either the Ancient theatre, Acropolis, Ancient Agora or the Archaeological Museum. At the new port you will find the ferry boats which transport you to Keramoti. During recent years many businesses have moved here, including tavernas, bars, bakeries and vehicle rental.
