MONASTERY OF ARCHANGEL MICHAELView on map
The Monastery of Archangel Michael is a women’s convent, which falls under the jurisdiction of Mount Athos and was founded by Philotheo's Monastery. The monastery is located on the island’s ring road between the villages of Aliki and Astris. It is perhaps one of the most well known monasteries on the island also due to its location and setting.
It is built on the edge of a cliff with magnificent views of the island's coast, the deep blue Aegean sea and the holy mountain of Athos. The Monastery is all famed as having the nails used to crucify Jesus, this draws thousands of pilgrims to the island every year. Livadi Beach is at the bottom of the cliffs.
