ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUMView on map
The Archaeological Museum of Thassos is located in Limenas (Thassos Town), capital of the island. It is close to the ancient market, almost in the center of Limenas (Thassos Town). A visit to the museum is well worthwhile, the collections are now housed in a new, purpose built building. It has collections dating from Paleolithic times to the Roman era and is the envy of other provincial museums.
Here you can see unique sculpture, ceramics and coin collections dating from the 7th century BC to the 7th century AD. In the Museum you can explore the 'Hall of Kouros', where you can admire the Kriophoros Kouros (statue of a young man) which stands at 3.5 meters tall which was found at the ancient temple of Apollo on the island. There is also another hall where there are some interactive displays.
