ANCIENT THEATERView on map
The Ancient Theatre of Thassos is located in Limenas (Thassos Town) and was built inside a natural cavity on the side of a hill. According to Hippocrates, it was built during the 5th century B. C. During the Roman occupation it was used as a 'sporting' arena. In the summer, if you get the chance, go and see some live entertainment, including plays and musical concerts.
You will be amazed by the acoustics and the stunning panorama. There is a footpath which leads you up to the theatre, and on from there the path will take you to the remains of the acropolis and to the temple of Athena, matron-goddess of the town (6th - 5th centuries B. C. ).
