Getting Around Thassos
Thassos has an asphalt main road around the island which is about 100 km's long. All of the interior villages can be reached via arterial asphalt roads from the main road. The exception to this is Kastro which is on a dirt road, this trip is best made in a jeep! You will need about 2 hours to do a full round of Thassos. But why run when you can cruise around and stop off for a swim anywhere which takes your fancy or visit one of our traditional villages! The road has two lanes, one for each direction. Always take care when driving on unfamiliar roads, the east part of Thassos has steep and winding roads which can get narrow in places. Also always be on the look out for goats and sheep on the roads!
There are several ways to move around Thassos. By car, motorbike or scooter gives you total freedom! There are many car and bike hire shops around Thassos if you do not have your own vehicle, they offer a full range of on and off road transport. There is a good bus service provided by KTEL, the buses start there service from 06:00 and run until 20:00. You can get to all villages, both coastal and inland by bus at a very reasonable cost. The main bus terminus is in Limenas, but you can get timetable information at all kiosks and cafes. Taxis are available nearly everywhere and will give you a fast service to where ever you want to go. There is a growing number of people who rent, or bring their own, bicycles. If you use 2 wheel transport stay safe, always wear a helmet and be careful on some of the narrower roads!
Banks and Post Offices
The only banks on Thassos are in Limenas and Limenaria. All of these banks have ATM machines. You can also find ATM's in Potos, Skala Prinos and Skala Potamia.
